How I Got Into
Coaching
I had an extensive career in the
corporate world at AT&T, where I held a wide variety of
managerial positions. Since I never quite felt totally fulfilled in
my career, I promised myself I would try something different once my
family was grown. I took an early retirement package in 1998 and
embarked on a quest for a career that was truly meaningful. I
particularly wanted to benefit others in a tangible way, using my
experience and taking advantage of all the mistakes I had learned
"the hard way" over the years.
At first, I tried my
hand at business consulting and then financial planning. While
satisfying, I still felt there was something missing. Then I learned
about Coaching as a profession through a friend who appreciated my
interest and pleasure in mentoring and developing people in my
managerial positions over the years at AT&T. I explored what
coaching was all about, and quickly became convinced that I finally
had found my calling.
My
Training
To prepare
myself for this exciting new profession, I hired a Coach for myself
and enrolled in Coach University , the leading training institute
for personal and business coaching. After completing that
curriculum, I enrolled in the Coachville Graduate School of
Coaching, a pre-eminent training organization.
I have
become a Certified Personal Assessment trainer for People Map, a
program designed to foster individual and team growth through better
understanding of oneself and others. In addition, I was certified by
the Relationship Coaching Institute, a Coach training school devoted
to enhancing inter-personal relationships in today's fast-paced
environment.
My Experience
Since founding Synergistic
Coaching, I have acquired a wide array of coaching experience,
having clients all over the country hailing from a multitude of
professions and lifestyles. Since most of my work is done over the
telephone, I have never met most of my clients in person. My
favorite clients are those who realize something can be improved in
their work or personal lives and are willing to do the necessary
work, but need experienced collaboration to make things fall into
place.
I have worked extensively, on site, with
businesses and non-profit organizations to enhance teambuilding,
hiring and retention, internal communications and organizational
design.
I thoroughly enjoy speaking and leading
seminars at businesses and organizations on various life skills,
with an emphasis on communications and career development issues. I
have spoken extensively at large corporations like Merck, Aventis,
Hoffmann-LaRoche and Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company, non-profits
such as Renew International and the New Jersey Heart Association, as
well as a host of other small business and civic
organizations.
I am pleased to serve
as Director of Coaching with the Life
Planning Institute Inc., a personal
growth organization helping individuals design well balanced,
rewarding lives. I am also a member of the International
Coaching Federation (ICF), the Philadelphia Area Coaches Association
(PACA) and the New Jersey Professional Coaches Association
(NJPCA).
Personally
I am married and have two daughters,
Cynthia and Rebecca, both of whom are trained psychologists with
doctoral degrees, I am proud to say. My wife, Linda, also is an
experienced Coach specializing in personal health and fitness
following a distinguished career in corporate wellness. Originally
raised in upstate New York, our family resided in central New Jersey
for over twenty years before relocating to beautiful Bucks County,
Pennsylvania amid rolling hills, pastoral farmlands and old stone
houses. I am a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, New York,
where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. I am enjoying
my life.
